8:00 PM ★ SLIM CHANCE & THE CONVICTS
The founding fathers of Atlanta's Redneck Underground, Slim Chance & the Convicts have been twanging for over 27 years. Formed in 1986 in order to keep GSU psychology grad students Slim & Dan from going crazy (along with Tony on drums), the Convicts quickly made a name for themselves by playing a veritable cornucopia of musical styles, most within the framework of traditional country music. With three albums and another on the way soon, the two time "Creative Loafing's Best Country Band" were instrumental in the creation of the storied Redneck Underground, a local scene that continues to this day. From the earliest shows at Georgia Retardation Center to The Austin Avenue Buffet, The White Dot, Ray Lee's, The Point, and The Star Bar, the mighty Convicts have also played such notable venues as Variety Playhouse, Lakewood Amphitheater, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville, and many others. Many members have come and gone over the years, but a Convict show is always an evening of entertainment, filled with classic sounding and edgy original tunes, and a plethora of cover songs we love to play.
8:45 PM ★ CHICKENS AND PIGS
Chickens and Pigs is Atlanta's own rockin' stompin' blues band, featuring Jeff Evans on guitar / vocals, Michelle Friedman on bass / guitar / drums / vocals, and Mr. Bingles – the electric bunny. With lyrics that are sometimes bizarre, sometimes strange, but always entertaining, Chickens and Pigs will take you on a journey of blues-raga, country-folk, Rolling Stones-type rockers, alt-country, blues rag, traditional folk and groove-blues. Get ready to cluck your oink off!
9:30 PM ★ ROLLFAST RAMBLERS
Rollfast Ramblers dial it back to a time when people came out to dance to music. Describing their music as Western Swing isn't descriptive enough for the Ramblers — they get back to the roots of Western Swing, pre-1940's.
The whole idea is to take the same approach as those country folks in the early 20th century trying to play Jazz, Blues, Conjunto, Swing mixed with Appalachian Folk and Pioneer Fiddle Tunes. Our goal is to toss a similar energy with the same influences into a modern blender. Now, let's see what comes out. But, Rollfast Ramblers is not music that you have to study to enjoy. Let's all hum a tune, clap, tap our feet and most of all let's all dance.
10:30 PM ★ JULEA & HER DEAR JOHNS
Julea & Her Dear Johns blend traditional Country / Western with Rockabilly flavors for a Honky Tonkin' Americana foot-stompin' twang. The band is headed by Julea Thomerson of the former all-girls-honky-tonk group The Bareknuckle Betties, and features Mario Colangelo (Tiger!Tiger!) on drums, Chad Lee Vaillencort (Atomic Boogie, Willie Heath Neal) on upright bass, and local guitar legend Spike Fullerton (Ghost Riders Car Club) on guitar.
11:30 PM ★ GHOST RIDERS CAR CLUB
GRCC brings its unique brand of honky-tonk vaudeville to Bubbapalooza 2014!
12:30 AM ★ THE WESTERN SIZZLERS
The Western Sizzlers are a honkin’, stonkin’ and of course rockin’ country outfit from Atlanta, Georgia. Led by Kevin Jennings (ex-manager of The Georgia Satellites, and The Black Crowes), Jennings has since toured with royalty acts as diverse as The Stray Cats and Kris Kristofferson.
